At Black Antler Outfitters, we specialize in hunting Canadian bears, a formidable species renowned for its adaptability and varying colour phases ranging from black to chocolate, cinnamon, and even blonde.
HUNTING TERRITORY: Our hunts take place in the Peace River country of northwestern Alberta, and is designated as a 2-bear Wildlife Management Unit (WMU), allowing hunters the unique opportunity to harvest two mature black bears during their 6-day hunt. This special designation enhances the hunting experience, providing a challenging and rewarding adventure in our richly populated bear habitats. Our terrain features expansive mature forests, swampy willow flats, beaver dams, river valleys, and clear-cut blocks—all prime environments for thriving populations of bears.
BLACK BEAR HUNTING: Black bears are abundant in our region, with adults typically weighing between 300 and 600 pounds. Our guides are skilled in baited and spot-and-stalk hunts, offering diverse methods to suit any hunter's style. We are dedicated to sustainable management practices to ensure the continued health and vigour of our bear populations.
SPRING HUNT: Running from late April through mid-June, this is a peak time for bear activity as they emerge hungry from hibernation. Accompanied by our highly experienced guides, hunters can expect these two-on-one hunts to include exciting encounters with these powerful creatures. Techniques include using bait stations or stealthily moving through their natural habitats, tactics designed to bring bears within range for a successful hunt safely.
FALL HUNT: Our fall hunts are primarily conducted as one-on-one, spot-and-stalk adventures. This setting allows us to pattern the bears as they actively seek to consume as much as possible before their hibernation season begins. This approach not only enhances the hunting experience but also increases the likelihood of a successful harvest as the bears focus on fattening up for the winter.
